Horizons of Montenegro: Sail the Sea, Conquer the Peaks

One Route. Two Ways to Experience It.

A curated journey through Montenegro’s most breathtaking landscapes — from Adriatic bays and medieval towns to high mountain plateaus, deep river canyons, and glacial lakes.

Choose your rhythm:

Classic Edition – Scenic, cultural, immersive.
Active Edition – The same journey, enhanced with guided cycling across coast and mountains.

Day 01 - Arrival, Adriatic Sailing & Savina Winery

Your journey begins where the mountains meet the sea in Herceg Novi. After settling into the five-star Lazure Hotel & Marina, you’ll step aboard a private sailboat to explore the entrance of the Bay of Kotor. The Adriatic air carries the scent of wild rosemary as you glide past the mysterious Mamula Island, a 19th-century fortress turned luxury retreat.

The highlight of the afternoon is a swim in the Blue Cave (Plava Špilja), a natural cathedral where the sun paints the water in impossible shades of neon blue. For lunch, the boat moors at Ribarsko Selo on the Luštica Peninsula, where the “catch of the day” goes straight from the fishermen’s nets to the grill. Your first day concludes at Savina Winery, where award-winning wines are served on a terrace overlooking the entrance to the fjord, paired with local delicacies as the sun dips below the horizon.

After breakfast, the journey goes deeper into the “Fjord of the South.” You’ll cruise past the glamour of Porto Montenegro, where superyachts line the palm-fringed docks, toward the poetic silence of Perast. This baroque town feels frozen in time, its stone palaces telling tales of wealthy sea captains. You will visit the man-made islet of Our Lady of the Rocks, a sacred sanctuary adorned with 17th-century silver tapestries.

Lunch is an authentic immersion at a local mussel and oyster farm. You’ll watch the harvest before enjoying a rustic feast of shellfish steamed in white wine and garlic. The afternoon is dedicated to Kotor, a UNESCO-protected labyrinth of marble streets and hidden squares. The day ends with a refined dinner at Restaurant Galion, where the lights of the Old Town walls reflect in the mirror-still water of the bay.

Today, you leave the coast behind for the dramatic highlands. You’ll ascend via the Kotor-Lovćen Cable Car, a breathtaking ride that reveals the entire bay in one panoramic sweep. From the summit, a private vehicle takes you into the heart of Lovćen National Park.

In the historic village of Njeguši, you will enter the country’s oldest stone smokehouse to taste the legendary prosciutto and cheese that have fed Montenegrin kings for centuries. After exploring Cetinje, the charming royal capital filled with 19th-century embassies, you’ll head North toward the mountain town of Kolašin. Your evening is spent at the alpine-chic Hotel Wulfenia, where the crisp mountain air and a traditional dinner of kačamak and slow-roasted lamb provide a warm welcome to the North.

The morning is dedicated to the wild, rolling ridges of Bjelasica Mountain. In a private 4×4 Jeep Safari, you’ll navigate forest tracks and mountain crests to reach hidden viewpoints overlooking glacial “mountain eyes” (lakes).

The heart of this experience is a visit to a traditional mountain katun. Here, you’ll join a local family for a pita-making demonstration, watching as thin layers of dough are hand-stretched and baked under a metal bell (sač) over glowing coals. This is the true taste of the Montenegrin highlands — warm, savory, and shared with genuine hospitality. The day concludes with a serene walk through the ancient trees of Biogradska Gora, one of Europe’s last three rainforests.

Your journey continues to the majestic Đurđevića Tara Bridge, an architectural masterpiece spanning the deepest canyon in Europe. For the adventurous, a zipline flight offers a bird’s-eye view of the turquoise abyss.

The main event is a 41km rafting adventure on the Tara River. Known as the “Tear of Europe” for its incredible purity, the river leads you through rapids and waterfalls, surrounded by sheer limestone walls and hanging gardens. After the thrill of the water, a riverside BBQ lunch awaits. The night is spent at the Porto Tara Eco Resort, where the sound of the rushing river provides the ultimate lullaby.

The final full day is spent in Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site of raw, dramatic beauty. A scenic drive takes you to the Ćurevac viewpoint, offering a dizzying look into the deepest part of the Tara Canyon.

The “Classic” pace allows for a relaxed “3 Lakes” easy hike, a gentle stroll through pine-scented forests to the crystalline Black Lake (Crno Jezero), mirrored by the towering peaks of Medjed. Lunch is served at a national restaurant on the lakeshore, featuring Durmitor steak, forest mushroom stews, and herbal teas gathered from the surrounding meadows. Your final evening in the mountains is a time for reflection in the quiet town of Žabljak.

After a final mountain breakfast, your private transfer will take you back toward the coast or the airport. As the peaks of Durmitor fade into the distance, you’ll carry with you the scent of wild thyme, the taste of homemade pita, and the enduring warmth of Montenegro’s timeless landscapes.

Day 01 - Coastal Warm-up: Sailing & The Luštica Trails

Your adventure begins in the botanical paradise of Herceg Novi. After a private sailing excursion to the neon-blue waters of the Blue Cave and the historic silhouette of Mamula Island, the “Active” journey truly kicks off.

While the sea breeze is still in your hair, you’ll mount your E-bike for an afternoon exploration of the Luštica Peninsula. You’ll pedal through ancient olive groves and along rugged ridges that offer 360-degree views of the open Adriatic and the entrance to the bay. The day culminates at Savina Winery, where a glass of chilled Chardonnay is the perfect reward for your first miles on the saddle.

Today, the road is your gallery. Instead of a van transfer, you will conquer the Boka Bay coastal route. Starting from the hills above Herceg Novi, you’ll ride through a string of medieval stone villages, with the turquoise water of the bay always to your right.

The route takes you through the baroque silence of Perast and toward the fortified walls of Kotor. It’s a 28-kilometer journey that blends physical exertion with breathtaking Mediterranean scenery. After a well-deserved lunch at a traditional mussel farm, where you’ll refuel with fresh protein from the sea, you’ll explore the narrow limestone streets of Kotor, feeling every bit the modern explorer.

The day starts with a vertical thrill as the Kotor-Lovćen Cable Car whisk you and your bike high above the bay. From the top station at Kuk, your mountain E-bike adventure begins. You’ll ride the alpine roads of Lovćen National Park, where the air is sharp and the vistas stretch all the way to Italy on a clear day.

The descent is a legendary “zigzag” through history, passing through Njeguši, the cradle of Montenegrin royalty. After a quick stop to fuel up on smoked prosciutto and local honey, you’ll continue your ride down to Cetinje, the historic capital. By the time you reach your mountain hotel in Kolašin, you’ll feel the transition from the salt of the sea to the scent of the pine forests.

This is the day your E-mountain bike truly shows its power. You’ll leave the asphalt behind and head into the wild, rolling heart of the Bjelasica Mountain range. The route follows high-altitude ridges at nearly 2,000 meters, crossing vast mountain pastures where wild horses still roam.

From Eco Katun Vranjak to the spectacular Bendovac viewpoint, you’ll navigate 15 kilometers of untouched terrain with views overlooking the virgin rainforest of Biogradska Gora. Lunch is served in a traditional mountain katun, where you’ll witness a pita-making demonstration and taste the legendary mountain “kačamak”—the ultimate fuel for high-altitude riders.

Today, we swap the handlebars for paddles. Your journey takes you to the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, where the boldest can start the day with a Zipline flight over the 1,300-meter-deep abyss.

Then comes the centerpiece of the canyon: a 41km rafting expedition on the Tara River. You’ll navigate the emerald rapids of the “Tear of Europe,” passing waterfalls and sheer cliffs that are inaccessible by any other means. It’s a raw, powerful encounter with one of the world’s last wild rivers. The evening is spent at Porto Tara Eco Resort, sharing stories around a riverside fire under a canopy of mountain stars.

Your final riding day takes place in the UNESCO fortress of Durmitor National Park. Starting from the dizzying Ćurevac viewpoint, you’ll follow a technical but rewarding trail through the densest pine forests in the Balkans.

You’ll ride through Bosača, the highest permanently inhabited village in the Balkans, before descending to the mystical Black Lake (Crno Jezero). The 10km trail is a masterclass in mountain silence and glacial beauty. A final lakeside lunch of Durmitor lamb and wild mushroom stew marks the end of your cycling journey. You’ll finish the day in Žabljak, with the satisfaction of having crossed Montenegro’s toughest and most beautiful terrains on two wheels.

After a hearty mountain breakfast, a private transfer will take you back toward the airport. You leave Montenegro not just as a visitor, but as an athlete who has felt the grit of its trails, the power of its rivers, and the soul of its mountains. The descent from the peaks is your victory lap.
